let the sunshine in

So, its been a month. Shit. I've been on the road so I haven't been updating. Internet = money + time... of which I have little. So, I'll have to back track in order to document my travels. But not now... now, I'm relaxing finally in AUS. I'm here, been here for the last three days and I'm leaning back for a sec.

Got here Friday, and Greta picked me up from the train station. It's so nice to have those kind of friends that need no fuss. The type that you just fall back into rhythym with. Immediate she knew I'd just want to go home, get sushi take out and share a bottle of wine on the deck and that's exactly what we did. It was excellent. And just when I was breathing easier out of the corner of my eye I saw a big dark figure sweep across the throughway of our driveway. I looked at Greta to see her reaction, which was stiffling a giggle. 'did you see that?' and she was like 'I was wondering when you'd notice them.' Apparently, there are lots of giant fruit bats in the Gold Coast - completely harmless but almost terrifying. A few larger bats flew by and I'm not surprised they are the largest of their species. It's almost like Batman himself swooping through the sky.

The next morning brought hot sun in the room and loud tropical birds calling in the palms outside. Magpies, Parrots of all kinds, Crows and Kookaburras... It was insane but they haven't been as loud as that morning so far. I'll be glad to get my bed which I purchase my second day.

Yesterday was the BIG DAY OUT - which will be a post in itself once I get the photos back. It was a completely wild and excellent time - culture shock - I was the only N. American I heard all day. 50,000 Aussie crowd. And the bands kicked ass - especially Kings of Mother F'n Leon and Iggy Pop. It was the best day.

Now I'm working on getting a cell phone, a bank account, a scooter, internet and a JOB... Hope all work out soon... life in the sunshine is working itself out just fine...
